The development of the PLE is led by TCD and is the main learning environment for the end-users (employees, people managers, strategic HR). The PLE brings together all other components of DEVELOP in a consistent and coherent way. The environment offers services such as the assessment of transversal competencies, the analysis of social capital based on an employee’s virtual social network, career path recommendations and related learning activities.
In February 2017, we conducted the first series of user test sessions on DEVELOP with Intrasoft International in Athens, Greece. We tested a wireframe of the PLE. A wireframe is essentially a visual guide that represents the page structure, as well as its hierarchy and key elements. We tested a wireframe because it is important to see what an end-user thinks of the product while it is being created. It is easier to adjust the product at an early stage before it has been fully developed. Moreover, participants are often more likely to give more feedback with wireframes, as they are presented as not being fully defined. With polished products, end users are often too polite as they perceive them as being fixed and finalised.
The DEVELOP team is also conducting a privacy and ethical impact assessment throughout the project and is developing recommendations on how to implement it within the PLE. One example for the impact of this analysis is a new user’s data is private per default. Another implication for the DEVELOP system is that privacy issues are made transparent to a user where they are relevant.
During 2017, the PLE was integrated with the following services: Competency Management System, AI Planning, Game-based assessment and Privacy and Sharing functionality.
