The game-based assessment was built using the SkillSimsTM authoring tool that is being supported by our associate partner ETU. The development of the game has been led by GITP with their expertise in game-based learning and production. The development leverages GITP’s existing in-house scripting, authoring, and production experience to create a cost-effective game-based assessment for transversal competencies.
The overall objective of this task was the design of the game-based assessment tool. Consideration was given to social, gender and technical concerns as well as the ease of re-purposing the tool to assess other competencies and for use with other organisations, sectors, social contexts and languages. Consideration was also given to the selection of the game genre and game mechanics to reflect the serious nature of career development.
The game was developed around the leadership competencies. In the game, you are immersed in an authentic workplace context. The interactions with your virtual team members help to identify your preferred leadership style. You will also fill out a questionnaire to determine how you think of yourself as a leader. When you have completed the leadership journey, you will receive a report that will give insight into your perception of yourself as a leader compared to your leadership style(s) based on your decisions in the simulation itself.
